The Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) calls for referendum to elect one (1) residential consumer interest representative to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s Governing Board (PREPA). This call is issued under Law 29 of June 25, 2013, and the Regulation for the election by referendum of representatives for residential and commercial or industrial consumer interest to the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s Governing Board, and rules of procedure for the election and removal (Regulation 8448 of March 5, 2014). Nominees must meet the following requirements: (1) 18 years of age or older, (2) able to read and write, (3) legal residents of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, (4) a bona fide subscriber or bona fide customer of PREPA, (5) have the attitude and aptitude to perform the duties of their office, (6) in full enjoyment of their civil rights, (7) not have been removed from any government position or not have been found administratively responsible for a violation to the Government Ethics Law, (8) accept the same rights and responsibilities as other members of the Governing Board, (9) not be an employee, retiree or have a substantial financial interest, direct or indirect, in any private company to which the Authority awards contracts or has transactions of any kind, (10) not have had, in the two (2) years prior to his position, a relationship or commercial interest in any private company with which the Authority grants contracts or makes transactions of any kind, (11) not have been a member of a governing body at central or local level of a political party registered in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico during the year prior to the date of designation, (12) not be an employee, member, consultant or contractor of the labor unions of the Authority; and (13) provide the certifications that are specified in the Request for Nomination Form.
Every nominee must submit the documents and certifications that are specified in the “Nomination Request Form " which is available at DCA regional offices, PREPA commercial offices and internet portals from both agencies: www.daco.pr.gov or www.aeepr.com. In addition, every nominee must also include at least fifty (50) signatures of subscribers or customers with their name, address and account number with PREPA.
This form should be sent, along with all other documents, no later than February 6, 2015 to the following address: Call Box 42008, San Juan, PR 00940. The seven (7) nominees with the highest number of endorsements will be certified as a candidate. For reference to definitions, procedures, and requirements of the election, please see the Regulation 8448.
2 Bona fide customer – person residing in the same household of a bona fide subscriber.
